Can I hire a Hilux or Hiace with a police escort in Lagos? ToTrip Car Rental Services hires out Toyota Hilux pickups, Hiace buses, SUVs and saloons with professional drivers. ToTrip does not supply police officers. If you need a police escort for your trip, contact ToTrip on 0913 781 8188 and we will direct you to the appropriate authority, since police escort for VIPs has been withdrawn nationwide by presidential order. We can supply the vehicles for your convoy separately.
Why Pickup

Why people ask for a Hilux or Hiace with a police escort

Not everyone who asks about a police escort wants a car. Some people need a rugged vehicle for a rough route or a work site. Others need a bus for a group, a pickup for equipment and luggage, or several vehicles that travel together. For these clients, the question is usually: "Can I get a Hilux, a Hiace or a convoy, and can security travel with it?"

The honest answer has two parts. The vehicles are something ToTrip can supply. The escort is not: it comes from the authority that approves it, and the rules on police escort have tightened sharply. This page explains how to keep the two apart so that your trip is planned properly.

The Rules

The current position on police escort, in brief

  • November 2025. President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs nationwide, to be redeployed to core policing duties. Reports said VIPs who still need protection should ask the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for armed escorts.
  • December 2025. At a Federal Executive Council meeting, ministers and senior officials who need special security arrangements were directed to contact the Inspector-General of Police and obtain clearance through the presidency.
  • February 2026. The federal government announced the redeployment of police officers from VIP escort duty to frontline security work.
  • July 2026. A Police Mobile Force message dated 8 July 2026 stated that the presidential order remains fully in force and that no amendment, exemption or informal understanding overrides it. Officers guarding facilities of national importance may protect only those sites.
The Pickup

Toyota Hilux hire in Lagos

The Toyota Hilux is a double-cabin pickup that handles poor roads, carries equipment and gives a high driving position. It is popular for site visits, project travel, field teams and as a support vehicle in a convoy. See the full details on the Toyota Hilux rental page, including current prices.

  • Site and project travel: engineers, surveyors and field teams moving between locations.
  • Support vehicle: a second vehicle that carries luggage, equipment and spare items so that the main vehicle stays light.
  • Rough routes: interstate and rural roads where ground clearance matters.
  • Chauffeur-driven or self-drive: available with a professional driver, and with self-drive terms where suitable.
The Bus

Toyota Hiace and Coaster buses for groups

When a group has to arrive together, a bus is cheaper and more reliable than a convoy of cars. The Toyota Hiace carries a mid-sized group, and the Toyota Coaster carries larger ones. For clients who need a higher level of protection, ToTrip also offers the bullet-proof Hiace bus and the bulletproof armoured Coaster.

Buses suit delegations, conference groups, wedding parties, church groups and staff movements. Each comes with a professional driver who knows the routes and keeps to the schedule.

Planning

How a civilian convoy is planned

When several vehicles travel together, the plan matters more than the number of vehicles. A well-run convoy usually has these elements:

  • A lead vehicle that checks the way and sets the pace.
  • The main vehicle that carries the principal passenger or the main group.
  • A follow vehicle that stays behind and keeps the group together.
  • A support vehicle, often a Hilux, for luggage and equipment.
  • One coordinator who holds the schedule, the route and the contact numbers.
  • Agreed rules on the road: spacing, stops, what to do if a vehicle breaks down, and who calls whom.

All ToTrip vehicles are civilian vehicles and are never styled to look like police vehicles. If security personnel are approved for your trip by the relevant authority, they will be arranged by that authority, and ToTrip will coordinate the vehicles around them.
